A letter to the Newlyweds to be...
So that you know who it is that would be photographing your wedding day, here are a few things about me. I grew up in Auckland and initially trained as a nurse. I spent the first 15 years of my adult life nursing, mostly working with children at Starship Children’s Hospital. Somewhere along the way, I followed my creative passion and shifted my career into photography, which eventually led me to capturing weddings.
Since 2019, I have photographed over 80 weddings throughout New Zealand. I love learning about other cultures by witnessing people of different ethnicities and religious beliefs celebrate their love in ways that may differ from my own. (FYI: I speak Spanish & I am learning Japanese). I embrace the traditional wedding, but I love it most when couples bring their own personal spin to the day — stepping away from tradition and making it truly theirs.
I embrace and celebrate love that looks different from what society may have dictated in the past. This means those within the LGBTQ+ community can feel safe with me and know (although it shouldn’t have to be said) that I would absolutely love to capture your love. 🏳️🌈
I love sharing my couples’ wedding day stories on social media, but it’s more important to me that your privacy wishes are respected. If you would prefer your photos not to be shared, that is completely okay with me.
I mentioned above that I have a soft spot for camera-shy couples — but extroverts, don’t worry! I also love a bride or groom who feels confident working the camera from every angle. The ultimate goal is comfort, and I truly enjoy helping everyone experience that whilst being at the centre of their wedding day.
I spend a lot of time in Japan, where my hubby — whom I married in 2025 — lives and works. We take on the challenge of long distance so that I can continue following my dreams of photographing weddings. During the off-season, that’s usually where I reside. It may mean we communicate via Zoom, but I will be no less involved in your wedding journey.
A few random facts about me… I’m a cat lover, a plant lover, and a nature lover. I have a big imagination and am probably still too much of a daydreamer — or, as others have called me, a free spirit.
I think that covers enough for now. I’ll save the rest for when we meet, and I can learn all about your wedding plans. Until then, happy wedding planning.
Much love,
Suzannah Maree ♡
